I will say this is not always the case, it happens quite a bit.

Here's a quick reference guide.

1. sleep more: Sleep is the most over looked area of injury prevention. Sleep allows the body to recover from what ever you do.

2. check your bed: I know they are expensive but remember you spend more time in bed then you do any other activity through out the day. If your bed is over 5 years old and you wake up with a nagging pain, it might be time to change. You need support when you sleep!!

3. Corrective exercises: The way you use your body on a daily basis has a direct and indirect connection to the way your body feels. If you're using your body in a way that is causing discomfort, you must break the cycle and learn new ways to use your body. Seek out a physical therapist for specifics or find a highly recommended personal trainer or exercise physiologist.

4. Massage Therapy: if you made it this far without skipping to the question of the week, You know what I'm about to say. Getting a massage once a month or even once every two weeks does very little to counter act the immense stress you place on your body on an hourly basis. Look at it from a preventive injury stand point will help you put it in perspective.

5. Water and nutrition: Food and water are the gas to drive the engine. Next time your about to eat that fried chicken, think of pouring a pound of sand in the gas tank of your car. It's not going to help it run well.

If you need advice contact a local dietitian or research it your self.

All of these things take some effort on your part. Making life style changes are painful but they are well worth it in the long run. Stop putting things off you know you must do, and start today.

You must be Selfish!!

I generally speak from personal experience. Sometimes it's based on the experiences of working with you, or just my personal experience through life.

One fundamental rule that most of us have trouble with, my self included, is making time for ourselves. Time to relax, time to connect with those that we don't typically get a chance to see, or time for taking care of ourselves. We tend to everyone's needs first and if there is time left over, most of us just collapse.

We see time for ourselves as being selfish or a luxury that we can't afford.

Those of us that don't take time to relax, recuperate, regenerate, whichever adjective works best for you, will eventually hit a wall. Whether it's illness, injury, or mental breakdown.

This down time allows you to find fresh perspective on life, health, or family. It allows your body to heal. Most importantly, It allows you to bring the best of you to the table.

If you're not taking the time to take care of yourself, stop and ask this honest question.

Am I bringing the best of myself to the table today?

Nick

Self Aware Much?

I am simply amazed on the amount of people that ignore their body. This may sound like some new age crap or even just crazy but your body talks to you all the time. It tells you when you are hungry, thirsty, in pain, tired and so on. Just like anything else once the body starts talking to you it generally too late. you have passed a point and your body is tired of waiting on you.

You don't wait until your car starts sputtering to put gas in it. this is the same for the body. You can't wait until it starts talking to you to feed the engine.

We have grown to believe that making ourselves first is selfish. Let me be the first to tell you, it's not selfishness. Its survival. You must create a plan of action and STICK to it!!!

We recommend you eat on a schedule to help maintain your blood sugar levels. Avoid doing anything in excess. Drink 10/10 oz. of water today. I know what you're thinking " I'll be in the bathroom all day or I don't like drinking water." You're body will turn into a dry sponge than. Have you ever seen a dry sponge bend? Think of your muscles and joints when thinking of a dry sponge. Its better lubricated and makes you feel better over all.

A pain here and there? if you drive a car and I think most of us do, you may see little pieces of tires on the side of the road as you're driving. Like a tired that runs thousands of miles, gradually you chip away at it until you ultimately have a blowout. A little pain here and there is the equivalent of a worn down tire. You may think nothing is wrong but over time it gets worse and worse until you have to go see an orthopedic to tell you, "it's time for a tire change." The great news is there are people and websites out there that can guide you to maintaining the tires. These patient's obviously exhibit signs of extreme tension in their extremities and upper cervical and thoracic spine.

The patient's that initially refused to take their med's obviously had an increase in tension. This caused me to increase the frequency of their sessions. Now it does not stop their shaking but what it does do, by increasing it from 1-30 minute session to 3-30 minute sessions a week, it increase the soft tissue relaxation we were looking for. In other words there was a marked increase in range of motion and less tension in the muscle tissue.

Working with the patients that are taking the latest medications were able to maintain range of motion and soft tissue relaxation with less frequency of 1-30 minute session a week.

I use 4 different types of massage in one session starting with either Neuromuscular massage which will actually stress the condition but does allow for increased range of motion or myofascial release to stretch the connective tissue. I usually finish each area with either Swedish or lymphatic drainage or vibrational techniques to calm the body down. This has been very effect for the PD patient's I have used it on. It may not work on everyone but don't be afraid to test out something you may think will work. Be sure to explain to your patient's ahead of time that you don't know what will happen, but informing them usually makes it run a little smoother.

Hadl98@yahoo.com

Time to Fight the Obesity "Disease."

It can be hard for someone who is fit/healthy to really understand what an obese person has to go through on daily basis.

I have decided to help fix the problem. All the while, neglecting a large segment of society that can't afford our services and are in desperate need.

I am teaming up with 4 other trainers to provide what we hope will be a growing trend across the country to motivate people to become healthy.

We are designing a massive boot camp as a public service. In some causes, this causes you to clench your teeth. Some people clench when they are in pain. The more you clench the more stress you put on the temporal muscles.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 162px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_iWuOChrSkGs/TCIMLHkHFFI/AAAAAAAAAJ8/FbgAUKmw7mw/s200/Gray382.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5485960681239286866" />

This will cause a mild to moderate headache. When you spend the rest of your day feeling like this, most people are not fun to be around.

This a great example of the physical stress creating emotional stress.

NOW, how do you manage something like this?

Instead of being like everyone else and hoping that time will resolve the issue, be proactive. Massage therapy is more than just a feel good, relaxation luxury that we spend money on. There are medical/ therapeutic purposes. The example I just gave to you can be fixed in one session. Remember pain in the body is your body telling you something is wrong. Stop putting it off and go get it fixed.

<img style="float:left; Mind you, it was with only one Client. I gave the client, 4- 30 minute treatments a week over a 3 week period. I applied Myofascial Release, manual lymphatic drainage, and Neuromuscular massage. The client was also instructed on deep diaphramic breathing for relaxation and stretching exercises.

The purpose was to see if there were any changes physically or psychologically.

1. There was no change in the amount of shaking during stress induced events. By the end of the 3 week span, the client did however state he was more conscious of the shaking and could stop it under his own control.

2. At the start, the muscle tone on the right side of the body was ridgid due to the constant shaking. At the end of the 3 week period. The color of the skin became darker and looked healthier, possibly from increased blood supply to the muscle tissue. The muscle tissue became much more supple and relaxed and range of motion in the joints increased slightly. The most visible increase in range of motion was the flexibility in the hands and wrist.

3. The client by the end of the 3 week period talked of feeling more relaxed overall and less mentally stressed.

I think the over-all result is Massage can aid in comforting people with PD. It can greatly increase relaxation in the muscle tissue and may provide some psychological benefits. But it's not a Cure.

Nick Hadl
Nick Hadl Clinical Bodywork
800 5th avenue suite 150
Fort Worth, TX. 76104
817.308.9958

The Most Common Pain this week!!!

Headaches
I have the pleasure of working with many different types of pain and discomfort. They seem to come in cluster's. This past week I have seen mostly headaches. Mostly due to the changing weather. Some of the headaches are cause by what i am beginning to my Clinchers.

Sinus is easily treated with one or two 30 minute sessions of lymphatic drainage. Clinchers on the other hand have to endure the deeper Neuromuscular Massage. Do you work with stuff like this?

Let me first state that it is required to have a physician's prescription for medical massage therapy if you want your health insurance to cover it.

Your first problem. In the state of Texas Insurance rules are vague enough that insurance companies are not required to cover this service when performed by a massage therapist. You may;however, find a chiropractor or a physical therapist because they are more likely to cover it. It's unfortunate but that is how it is.

If you choose to see me, the way I handle the situation is you first check with your insurance to see if they cover Massage Therapy when performed by a massage therapist. If they do, you pay me out of pocket and I give you the proper paperwork to get reimbursed.

The alternative to health insurance is the Medical Savings Account. You still need a prescription, but most MSA's cover Medical Massage Therapy.

Lower back pain can be your fault..

In the last 12 years, I have worked on many different types of pain. Muscular, emtional, neurological, and even that mysterious myofascial pain. My biggest asset is my ability to delve into your personal life and point out something things that might be causing the pain without you knowing it causes you pain.

BEDS

A bed can be the biggest factor in lower back health. I know of course that you are very diligent at doing your exercises. This ensures that your lower back stays healthy. A good rule of thumb, if you wake up in the morning and your lower back hurts you may be ready for a new bed or in some cases a different type of bed. The way to know for sure, is if your back loosens up through out the day and hurts the most when you wake in the morning.

Morning Headaches
I can't tell you how often I hear of people waking up with a headache at least once a week. This to me signifies a chronic problem, but to them it is just something they have to deal with. This is not so. 94% of those people that wake up with a headache are doing so because of one reason, they clench their teeth all night long. If a muscle is firing all night, your going to be sore the next day. This also affects the back of your neck and makes it stiff upon waking. Remedies: get a massage ;) i have to throw that in there. Other things you may want to look into. Go to the dentist and get a night guard, this will not prevent clenching but will ease the pain in the morning. Another alternative would be to go to a chiropractor and have your Jaw adjusted. People with chronic clenching problem may have a miss alignment in their jaw.

Driving your car is killing your lower back

A simple test, as you're driving reach down and feel your right thigh. Odds are if your lower back hurt, this will feel hard as a rock. Also notice that when you bring the car to a halt, that muscle feels like it relaxes. This muscle actually attaches to you lower back and if you are always firing that muscle one side will get tighter and tighter till the torque is too much for the body. This torque causes a shift in your SI joint which then causes you pain.

Pay Attention to the thing you are doing on a daily bases. As you can see from this picture, your hip and lower back are both affected. This type of rotation will cause you to feel pain on one side starting near the dimple in your lower back moving out toward your hip.

The cause of this could be from the way you sit cross legged or just having too much tightness on one side of your body. The good news is a deep neuromuscular massage will help with the tightness along with some added stretches.

Brief Explanation on the Annual Membership Program
There has been some confusion on the annual membership program. Athletic Trainers, personal trainers, physical therapist, massage therapists, ect… The one thing they have more than you, is time. Time to focus on keeping their body in tip top shape.

The last time I checked with most of you, you don’t have that time. When playing sports for most of us, the most important part is being cut out. Maintenance and Recovery. As the body ages and you continue to neglect these areas, injury becomes more likely. Taking an extra 5 minutes to warm up properly, Stretching, training, massage, ice, rest and diet are all factors that will help you maintain the best shape you can for the sports you play. The question you should ask is how important is it to you?
For most of us the passion will always be there, make sure you keep the body in the best shape you can, by doing all you can.

Nick Hadl
Clinical Bodywork
817.308.9958
800 5th ave suite 150
Fort Worth, TX. 76104

Fort Worth Massage Therapy

Massage Therapy services
1. In a way it’s sad. We
make goals only to let them fall to the waist side.

The simple key to
accomplish your goals whether it’s,... fitness, business, or just having fun is “planning.”

Most us lack the
secondary key to moving towards goals, Emotional Attachment. This is the most
important part of setting a goal. If you have no emotion behind what you want
to accomplish, odds are you have already failed before you started.

Use a road map. Your
destination is your goal. The emotionally charged reasons for those goals are the roads to get
that goal.

Example:
Goal: Get fit

Reasons: Will
help me live long enough to play with my grandchildren

- Energizes my day
and makes me feel good all day.

Etc… the more reasons
you have, the easier it is.

Nick Hadl Clinical Bodywork
Home of the *$40 hour session
817.308.9958
Fort Worth

*$40
hour sessions are for Annual members only. Why? Because you may have bills you need to pay, children to provide for, Clothes to buy, ect.. Most often than not its viewed as a means to relax and in a society where Go, go, go, is the overwhelming philosophy, any break from that feels like luxury.

This is a Huge misconception. Along with fitness and diet, massage gives you the one thing we so desperately need in these times, “Stress relief”. Why is this important???

By lowering your stress levels with massage, the studies show you become more productive. This will allow you to get better rest and recovery from your daily physical and mental activities. It in some cases it will help to bring about a more positive change in your life.

Nick Hadl

Question of the week???

What is one side effect of Caffeine?

Email hadl98@yahoo.com for a chance at a free 30 minute massage.

$50 for an Hour Massage until end of November

<meta equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; Yes, some of you just use a massage therapist as an excuse to go out and get a massage. After all a massage helps assist in the correction of those problems that we create in our bodies.
Here is a quick and easy tip, lose that office chair for something cheaper and much more effective at correcting posture.
The PhysioBall Chair forces you to sit up right. This will lessen the strain on the lower back and neck caused by slouching. Just the very act of sitting on the ball will also help strengthen your core. Don’t let slouching become a pain in the Neck..

When would “now” be a better time?
Most of our minor aches and pains are things we can live with and work though. The problem is that you may alter the way you doing things while in pain, thus creating another problem. I tend to see some of you 2-3 weeks after something happens. This is just enough time for you to change the function of the body and start creating another pain.
You know me. If you can handle it yourself, do it. It’s ok to admit you need help. Don’t waste time putting it off creating new problems.
“Break the pattern’s that create pain”

Call 817.308.9958
Location:
Nick Hadl Clinical Bodywork
Ben Hogan Center
800 5th Ave. Suite 150
Fort Worth, TX. 76104

Pain in the Butt and New Massage membership pricing

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 241px; height: 241px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_iWuOChrSkGs/SsO2RsPfGoI/AAAAAAAAAH8/KFQGnykjZCI/s320/HadlLogoBlue%26Green09.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5387349994315389570" />
October Changes
*New Membership Offer
For $35 a month
Get the $40 hour massage

I am always looking to try something new. This time, you have a say in what I am trying to do. I am Thinking of doing “a monthly annual membership program”. This would mean you could pay out the membership on a monthly basis instead of paying it as one lump sum of $300.00.

The monthly price would be $35.70 a month for 12 months, billed on a credit card or debit card you provide on file. If you think you would be interested in the program just call me and sign up. The program still gives you 50% off all year.

Call 817.308.9958

Stress Buster:
Pain in the Butt
I like to write about the most common problem I am dealing with from week to week. Each week it seems you and many other share similar problems. This last week it is that mysterious pain in the butt.

Most often this problem is being caused by your Sciatic Nerve. The solution is to Massage the Piriformis muscle which can add increased tension on the nerve creating pain. There is also a sciatic nerve stretch that can help alleviate the pain.

Nick Hadl Clinical Bodywork
817.308.9958
800 5th Ave. Suite 150
Fort Worth, TX. 76116

Advocare Nutritional Supplements

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 141px; height: 87px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_iWuOChrSkGs/Sp2LSyMrR8I/AAAAAAAAAH0/VxBG1arGwUM/s400/V100_IBowl_09_logo_fordwnld.gif" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5376606684979087298" />

I recently have taken the plunge into the fitness supplements distributing industry. I have to admit, I was bit stressed wondering how everything would go. It went better than I anticipated. The couples who joined the group class were eager to learn and fun to teach. My poor girlfriend was suppose to be my demonstration model but unfortunately I spent most of the time going from couple to couple, making sure they had the right hand position and the right pressure. Poor Kristi.

A few times I even had to Calm down the excitement..This is a PG-13 class after all. I did have a great time. The couples all seemed to enjoy themselves, working on their partners. A special Thanks to all of you for being a part of the first of what i hope will be many couples group massage training classes... It seems like it just ended. Since it is back in I'll pick a topic this week that coincides with the beginning of school. The topic this week is high school injuries. High school sports are starting up girls Volleyball, football, etc.. Students seemed to be pushed a little hard than in years past. With the push comes the risk of over use injury. Mostly tendinitis. This is a combination of lack of fluid in the system, too much activity and not enough rest. Here are Three simple steps that can help. 1. Hydrate, hydrate, and hydrate. 2. Ice after practice (shoulders, low back, etc...)3. Stretch and Rest. Stretch the area's that are at increased risk (again shoulders, knees, IT Bands, Neck and forearms.) Just an observation. Of course massage will aid in the recover, but I'd rather give you things you can do on your own. Feel free to email me with any questions and or comments.

* Note if pain gets increasingly worse in a short amount of time notify your local Orthopedic Physician to rule out the possibility of a torn muscle.

The Lunch Date Massage

Testing a new service. Starting out as a solo massage practitioner with a National Certification in Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork and a Massage license in the state of Florida, I worked in many area's of massage therapy. I have worked in spa's, Physical Therapy Clinic's, and fitness centers. Initially, I found the work to be unrewarding in those atmosphere's. The reason being is that you are working along side others but you are not a part of the solution.

It wasn't until 2002 when I got lucky and started my work with the Texas Rangers Ball Club. For the first time, I was a part of a team effort.

In 2003 I open Nick Hadl Massage Therapy inside the Ben Hogan Sports Therapy Institute in Fort Worth, Tx. while still working with the Rangers.

2004 I turn all my attention into NHMT, creating a cost effective service that the public desperately needed. Over time the business has grown to serve over 2,000 people in Fort Worth, Tx.

In 2008, at the requests from a few client's, I changed my business name to Nick Hadl Clinical Bodywork, to help redefine what it is I do for you.

What Can I do for you?
In a nut shell, I assess your physical pain. From there, I delve into your lifestyle to see if there are things you are doing, that may be causing/contributing to your physical problem/s.

Clinical Bodywork is incorporation of Neuromuscular Massage, Myofascial Release, Manual Lymphatic Drainage, basic soft tissue Munipulation, Exercise Physiology, and diet.

The Purpose is to restore the body to a healthy functional state.

Signs of Over Training

I always like to lecture people about habits. My style of helping you comes from integrating knowledge based on statistics of working with people like you for over ten years. Your lifestyle, Job/Home/Fun, health, relationships. In working with professional Athletes to Joe blow mechanic, we all have habits that will effect our lives. The only difference being, the habits we create for our lives.

The other aspect of the knowledge I share is based on personal experience or my own personal habits. I will sometimes use my self as a model to help you as well. Today I am talking about "over training" or working out too much or the all mighty work out addiction. As a whole, most of us don't give this much thought. We don't see someone and think " I think they have a serious problem, they work out too much." It sounds silly to even type it. Sometimes however it does become a problem. I'm not going preach today. I am just going to put up somethings to help you identify some signs of over training..

1. Frequent injuries/ illness
Too much training and weaken your immune system and not allow the body to recover from exercise.
2. Inability to fall asleep/ or wake up fully rested.
3. Mood disturbances ( short temper, depression, OCD, isolation)
4. Loss of muscle mass due to lack of caloric intake and rest/repair.+ loss of appetite
5. Inability to focus and plan things
6. Constant feeling of being physically and mentally tired
7. Chronic muscle and joint pain.

www.Nickhadl.blogspot.com
Nick Hadl NSCA-CPT/ NCBTMB/LMT
This list is based on my own personal experience with over training. This could mean that you have connective tissue issues. What is connective tissue? It is the tissue of the body that runs from head to toes and is connected to everything. When you have a surgical procedure or acute injury, you may develop scar tissue in your connective tissue. This may cause the tissue as a whole to pull toward the scar there by pulling everything out of place. There are a few way to fix it. The best method i have found that works is a combination of Myofascial Release and Neuromuscular massage. Myofascial Release will spread the connective tissue back to it's original state, while Neuromuscular massage will help to break up the scar tissue. The more you know, the easier it is to fix.. have a great week.. You and I both are creatures of habit. Think about your habits.

Question: does your job have you sitting for extended periods of time talking on the phone, or typing all day?

possible issues: Headaches, Upper neck and shoulder pain, Lower back pain, jaw and ear pain, numbness or tingling in the hands, the list goes on…

Solution??? Lymphatic Drainage Massage on the head and neck to open up the removal of lymph fluid. Followed by Myofascial release massage to stretch the connective tissue around the spine and shoulder. Neuromuscular massage to help soften and loosen up the muscles… it’s that simple.

BUT!!!!!!

The most important part is understanding that most of our aches and pains are generated from how we use our body on a regular basis. Break the patterns of everyday movement by taking a yoga class, Pilates class, aerobics class, a walk in the park or around the office. Work out with a friend. Swim, run, walk, or ride a bike. Just add something new and see how everything begins to change.

Nick Hadl Clinical Bodywork
www.nickhadl.blogspot.com

chronic headaches go away

I am always taken a back by the amount of people i meet that say they have at least one headache a week. May its my job or that i'm just weird, but when i feel bad i want to know why. My job causes me to look at everything from a structural or muscular stand point. If you have chronic headaches it may just be from something simple as nightly clinching or grinding. There are two muscles in the face that cause this; the temporals and the masseter. Google them. The other side effect of this is inflammation in the face, which causes symptoms of sinus headaches. My recommendation is a simple jaw exercise and lymphatic drainage on the face. You will see results in as little as the first few days. If you're interested in the exercise just email me and i'll walk you through it. Mostly in the form of rounded shoulders. I couldn’t figure it out until I looked into the mirror. I love my IPhone but the process of sitting with my hands in my lap, playing a game for a short period of time, over and over again has caused a more pronounced slouching posture.

Why is this important?? The more rounded your shoulders become the more stress you place on your spine and more importantly your neck. If that crick in your neck feels worse lately, think about the amount of time you spend on your IPhone, if you have one that is. This may also be from a Blackberry.

lower Back Pain...

Lower back pain can happen for many reasons.it could be a disc issue or it might be an Sacral Illiac(SI) joint issue. Today im going to put some focus on the SI joint. This joint is located in the small of your back, you may know this place as the dimples in your lower back. Those dimples are where the sacrum and illiac connect. The problem with this area is it can move. When it does you typically feel pain on one side. You may also feel a pain on front of your leg that can wrap around toward the ground. If a shift has taken place massage may not help the problem but a simple strain counter strain exercise will help and may even get rid of the pain.

The exercise is i bit complex to explain but you can do it by yourself or with a partner.

By yourself- in a standing position with a counter in front of you raise you leg up and place it on the counter, resting only the heel of your foot on the counter. Note raise the leg you feel the tightness in the quad or hip flexors. You should feel a stretch in the hamstring. Keeping the leg straight, press your heel into the counter as hard as you can while flexing the opposite leg. Picture scissors closing only the leg don't actually move. Hold this for about 5- 10 seconds the release and repeat 3 times a day.

Let me know how it works out for you.

Stop paying for on going massages

Save money by learning how to massage… In times like these stress is will have a tremendous impact on all of us. I bought one. As you may already know, i have some what of an addiction when it comes to working out. I have backed off in last year or so but it is still i huge part of my life. This is partly the reason i bought it. Test it out and see if its really a benefit.

I did the wii sports for maybe two hours. Tennis, golf, boxing, baseball, and bowling. My perception is that with the wii boxing you will burn the most calories. I broke a sweat playing it and the next day from the waist up, to my surprise, i could barely move. I also did some of the wii fitness stuff. i found it not as intense but im sure there are varying levels.

My determination is that you still need a more intense cardiovascular program to maintain your heart rate. The wii is a good add on to any workout but do not make it your only work out.

Pain of the Week

Hadl98@yahoo.com
Upper shoulders.
This is a very common problem. Body mechanics, weight distribution(belly fat), previous injury. As a massage therapist i must look at all these factors to decide the best possible course of action. Something as simple as losing a few pounds may have an extraordinary impact on the amount of stress placed on your lower back. Changing that way you sit, may again have a profound effect. If you, like i, cross your legs when sitting in a chair, you may feel pain on side in which you cross. " Flat feet in a seat" keep your feet on the ground when you sit will reduce the constant tug and miss-alignment on the spine.

Injury can be a tricky factor. Most who have had back surgery may complain of a pain that comes and goes. This can be due to scar tissue build up from the surgery. In this case i would recommend that you get on a scar tissue removal protocol of massage. The treatment would be localized and should take between 15-30 minutes two to three times a week for about 2-4 weeks depending on the severity.

If you have questions feel free to email me at hadl98@yahoo.com

a few other factors to look at are if you recently purchased a new pair of shoes, or have shoes that are very old. They can through your body mechanics off just enough to irritate the lower back, hips and knees.

Look at your bed. how old is it? You may need more support or if you just bought it, you may need less support. Buying a bed should be more important than buying a car. My reasoning for saying that is that we spend more time in bed, then we do anywhere else. Buy a bed that supports your back.

Getting enough sleep and water. Sleep is the time in which our body uses to recover. Use it wisely and to you benefit. It doesn't just make you tired when you don't get enough, its makes you achy. Test it out if you don't believe me.

Hydration is something we all battle with. If you drink caffeine it makes it even harder to get that hydration. If your car doesn't have enough oil in, the machine breaks down. You have metal rubbing metal. Our body is made of mostly fluid. stay lubricated and reduce the pain.

Nick

spring time pain

Sports corner
The season is creeping in. Tennis, baseball and golf. All three of these sports have their special brand of injuries. Tennis: elbow, shoulder, and knees. Baseball: elbow, shoulder and back. Golf: shoulder, hips, back and elbow. We all have processes that we go through when doing things. Make sure you add stretching, strengthening and massage to your weekly protocol to limit your risk of injury.

Medical bodywork(massage)
Medical massage is a purpose driven type. You systematically breakdown what the problem is and with some “elbow ;)” grease and few sessions the problem is resolved. The only thing about it is that it only works in conjunction with other therapeutic modalities such as physical therapy and/or chiropractic. If you neglect the other modalities the massage will only be a temporary fix.

Heart Health

As Valentine’s Day draws closer, love is in the air. This is a great time to plug the Enhance your relationship program, but I won’t. Instead I want to share with you a recent speech I gave to a group of professionals. The speech was entitled take “Take Action Now”. It was a long speech but the bottom line is that at least 64% of our population will wait to be told they will die from cardiovascular related illness, before they even attempt to get healthy. It’s a staggering number and growing. A simple 30-45 minute walk 3-5 nights a week will get you back into it. At the very least, it is a place to start. Don’t wait to be told your life is in longer in your hands. Take action today.

Headaches

Before you reach for the Advil, take heart and think what could be causing this problem. In massage i see a few things. Caffeine, dehydration and clenching.. all of these can cause headaches. to take it a step further. Clenching can mimic signs of sinus trouble. Th reason is because the lymph flow moves towards your ear from the face. If your clenching, odds are you are creating an inflammatory process that can slow down the lymph flow. This will feel like a stuff nose on one side and a mild headache. Massaging the muscles of the jam and stimulating lymph flow are the two keys to help you greatly reduce and even eradicate to pesky headaches. Side note* you could just stop chewing gum, cut the caffeine, and drink plenty of water. Just a thought.

Walking in front of your feet…

Have you noticed that people have a slight lean to them as they walk by you. This can be for a number of reasons. Why do I feel like it is important for you to know about this? It important mainly because it means your gait of walking style is off a bit. If you have a forward lean that mean your weight is shifted to the balls of the feet, which will cause you lower back to be the point of counter balance. This means you may suffer from mild to severe lower back pain. Try shifting you body weight into you heals as you walk to correct. Just remember to fall back into you walk.

We had such a great turn out for the class. Thank you all so much for being the first. I hope you all enjoyed it. Trust me, I have noticed too. I guess you can say I dropped the ball. I extend my sincere apology. Here is a quickie to get us back on track. I have noticed that we devote very little time to an easy thing that has a tremendous impact on our quality of life. As you can see by the title, it’s not something that’s too terribly hard to do.

A simple exercise to start.
In the morning when you wake take 3 minutes and try this. You’ll love this, close your eyes but don’t fall back to sleep. Breathe in for 10 seconds. At the top of your breath, hold it for 10 seconds and try to relax your shoulders and neck. Now breathe out slowly . Now repeat this 5 to 10 times. This will help you stimulate lymphatic flow, reduce your blood pressure, and stretch the little muscles around the spine.

Massage away the pain, today 817.308.9958

Medical Massage

August can bring out the pain in our body’s. This is usually due to the fact that were more active. What I want to focus on this month is what I mostly saw last month. Your basic neck and shoulder pains. There are a number of reasons for the pain. I could be a joint issue in the spine creating inflammation, it could be muscular imbalances around the shoulder, or it could be posture related.
